Ember is a firefly, and the book is not hers. Somebody left it open on the grass and went inside, and the pale paper caught her eye from all the way across the garden. She comes down on the edge of the page and sits there glowing over the words. Then a small breeze turns the page, and that is the signal. Her family arrives over the hedge one after another, twenty or thirty of them, and gathers in the air above the open book, drifting and blinking and lifting and settling again. Whoever comes back out for it will find the whole page lit from above, and will leave it where it is a while longer.
Simple, magical and giftable, with an open book and a handful of small glowing lights. It leans elegant rather than cute, which suits people who want their bookishness understated. Perfect for readers, writers and anyone who still believes a book changes a room.
